SUMMING MY COUNT

Published on January 10, 2015

It's bitter cold and has been for days, with intermittent snow and slippery roads. Big traffic pileups all over Michigan yesterday.

As for me, I am in the midst of sorting out many hundreds of thousands of computer files, photos, and all kinds of stuff. I am backing up a ton of files in preparation for getting a new computer soon. It is slooow going, with computers copying files all day and all night, for days.

Of course I am hoping for better order as an outcome, to taking control of my own computer files. We will see how long that lasts. And once again I am promising myself not to fill up my drives with all kinds of programs until my system chokes, but I tend to do it all the same. However, this time is going to be different, just the essential programs. At least that's what I am telling myself.

As for words of wisdom, I am pretty much speechless for now. This photo I took today of one of my favorite flowers (as Shakespeare said) "shall sum my count and make my old excuse." Here are his words:

Shakespeare's Sonnet 2

When forty winters shall besiege thy brow,
And dig deep trenches in thy beauty's field,
Thy youth's proud livery, so gazed on now,
Will be a tatter'd weed, of small worth held:
Then being ask'd where all thy beauty lies,
Where all the treasure of thy lusty days;
To say, within thine own deep-sunken eyes,
Were an all-eating shame and thriftless praise.
How much more praise deserved thy beauty's use,
If thou couldst answer 'This fair child of mine
Shall sum my count and make my old excuse,'
Proving his beauty by succession thine!

This were to be new made when thou art old,
And see thy blood warm when thou feel'st it cold.
